Team Rynkeby starts in 38 cities in eight days – get the full overview here

On Saturday, 23 June 2018, the first Team Rynkeby team will begin the annual ride to Paris. Just eight days later, all 1,900 riders will be in the saddle. Get a full overview of Team Rynkeby’s 43 starts here.

Formally, Team Rynkeby’s annual bike ride to Paris takes place over seven stages. This has been the case since 2002, where the first Team Rynkeby team spent seven days in the saddle covering the more than 1,200 km from Ringe to Paris.

But as the Team Rynkeby project has grown in a northern direction, the distance to Paris has also increased.

For this reason, many of the new teams have needed to expand the number of days in the saddle with one or more prologues. This allows all 48 teams to complete the tour at the same time in Paris on 7 July 2018.

Team Rynkeby’s 48 teams will depart this year at 43 different events in 38 cities in seven countries on eight different days.

The first team to depart is Team Rynkeby – God Morgon Oulu, which is based a good 600 km north of Helsinki. Several of the riders, however, have an address even further north, which is why the majority of the team in the city of Rovaniemi, which the Finns stubbornly claim is the hometown of Santa Claus, will depart on Saturday 23 June 2018 at 8:30.

More Finns on the move
Later that day – almost 2,000 km to the southwest – Team Rynkeby Sønderjylland (Southern Jutland) is holding a prologue event in which the team will thank the local area for its support. But unlike the Finnish riders, the Southern Jutland team will have plenty of time to pack their bags – their actual start will take place one week later.

On Monday, 25 June, Team Rynkeby – God Morgon Oulu will reach their hometown of Oulu, where the remaining part of the team will saddle up. The entire Finnish team is thus united and on the way to Paris.

In the following days, several Finnish teams will also begin the trip towards Helsinki, where all seven Finnish teams will meet for a joint prologue on the Friday.

On Thursday, 28 June, the 50 Faroese riders will also hop in the saddle to ride the more than 80 km from Klaksvík to Tórshavn, where the team will sail to Denmark.

Biggest start ever
The next day – Friday, 29 June – a number of Swedish and Norwegian teams will also be starting the tour.

And five Norwegian teams will meet for a joint prologue at Rikshospitalet in Oslo. Later the same day, three of them will sail towards Copenhagen, where the next day they will be assembled with five Danish teams as well as another Norwegian team to comprise what will be the biggest total Team Rynkeby start ever.

The total of 356 riders from nine teams will make their start together at City Hall Square in Copenhagen on Saturday 30 June at 9:30.

On Sunday, 1 July at 7:30, Team Rynkeby Odense will be the last team to depart for Paris, and the 1,900 riders and 450 volunteers will all be on the way to Paris – eight days after the first Finns saddled up.
